Remind the man in your life that you care

Posted on

Before you have children, you can wonder how you would ever get to a point where you worry that your partner doesn’t know you care. But children can zap all of your energy and attention. You don’t mean to get to that stage where you don’t spend enough time with your husband or wife; you just sink into a new routine. It can’t be helped. So from time to time you do need to work on your relationship, and a great way of doing that is by showing the other person in your life how much you care. From simple gestures to date nights, here are a few ways you could remind him how much you care and love him.

Sacrifice the lie in

The sacred lie in is a topic of many a heated row across the UK between mum and dad on a Saturday or Sunday. It’s equally important to each person, and neither thinks the other person deserves it more than the other. So anyone would know that sacrificing your lie in is a big deal in the parent world. So imagine how much he will know you care if on one morning you decide to get up with the kids, and it was his turn. It sounds so small and insignificant, but we all get tired, and we all have our own needs for that little bit of extra rest. So this should score you some great brownie points and also show them you care, a lot.

Buy him a simple, thoughtful gift

While things shouldn’t always be solved with a gift and having to buy something. Sometimes an item that has taken thought can show the other person you care. It doesn’t matter about cost, it could be the cheapest thing, but if it means something or shows thought it would go down well. This is where thinking about your husband, what they like, interests them, or may need would be important. Perhaps you have a habit of forgetting his razor when you do the weekly shop, then shave club could be a fabulous idea, and would save you some guilt. Or perhaps you know he’s been after something for sometime, but he always buys for you and the children. Then a special treat could be a way of giving back. Take some time to think about what would work well.

Arrange a surprise date night

Me-and-He-Who-Helped

Sometimes it seems that it would be down to the man in your life to organise any surprise meal out or date. So switch the table round and organise something yourself. A surprise date night could inject a bit of passion back into your relationship and the gesture that you organised it could go down well. It doesn’t have to something flashy or overboard, especially if you are watching your budget at the moment. But even something as simple as a cinema visit without the kids could be a great evening out.

Offer to do something he always does

Finally, if your husband is the one who always cooks, why not offer to do it instead. If he is the one that always puts the kettle on, why not make a point of making him a cup of tea or coffee. Sometimes doing something and giving your husband a break will be all it takes to cement in his mind how much you love and care for him.

GIVEAWAY & REVIEW: Treat Republic’s Christmas Range! Win a £30 Voucher (CD: 24/11/2014)

TR

We all know I love Treat Republic. Whenever I have a birthday looming on my calendar it’s the first place I visit to pick up something quirky and unique, and their Christmas selection this year is equally fabulous.

Searching their gifts is stupendously easy. You simply pick your occasion then narrow down by recipient (boyfriend, wife, brother, grandparent etc) and Treat Republic will show you hundreds of tried & tested gifts. This is lazy shopping at its best (although I think the folks at TR HQ will slap my wrist for saying so). You’re guaranteed to find something to suit the fussiest of personalities, and pick up lots of brownie point in the process.

I must have been in a very naughty mood when contacted recently to choose something Christmassy to review (either naughty, or incredibly stressed) as I plumped for alcohol. Treat Republic do a great range of personalised tipples that would make great centrepieces for a Christmas table. There’s champagne, sparkling wine, whiskey, port, vodka, beer and wine… all of which can be personalised (from bottle labels, to boxes and even glassware).

Not thinking of Craigy at all, I plumped for pink bubbles (an entirely deliberate oversight). This Sparkling Monopole Rose Wine was a very reasonable £24.99, which is similar to the price point I’d plump for in the supermarket. It arrived in beautiful gold presentation box in a bed of gold tissue paper. If I had any intention if gifting this to someone it would therefore be ready to simply present to them; dinner party host, birthday girl, your boss or otherwise (but obviously this particular bottle was destined to be devoured by only one person…).

The personalisation process was incredibly simple, you simply type the recipient’s name, then a message of your choice to appear on the bottle. Style-wise it looks slick and professional and I’d be more than happy to receive it. More than happy…

TR Wine

It was a great quality sparkling wine and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Sorry about the quality of the pictures - it wasn’t the first thing on my mind at the time!

Although I could write about alcohol all day, I better show you what else Treat Republic have on offer this Christmas!

Funny Gift Ideas for Dads

Posted on

You might have spotted I’ve been a bit preoccupied with Christmas preparations recently. I used to really enjoy buying presents, but over the last two years I’ve really struggled to make decisions. To start as I mean to go on, I’ve prepared a mini spreadsheet with everyone’s names on and have been busy populating it with gift ideas. The idea is to link to as many things as I can, and watch them like a hawk just in case they somehow slip into the sale section and I can bag some bargains.

I’ve millions of ideas for Dexter and the children in the family, and I’ve even managed to find some lovely things for the grandparents. But let’s face it, men are ridiculously difficult to buy for. I find myself year after year racking my brains trying to recall conversations we’ve had for inspiration. Yet every year he’ll get stuck with a few Diesel tees (he likes the fit) and some Clinique face cream. This year I’d love to get him something different.

Luckily I’ve found a site with dozens of funny ideas for the man in your life. The Internet Gift Store has loads of really affordable stocking fillers and out-of-the-box ideas for the tricky to buy for man. Hopefully this will mean that Craig gets to open a few more pressies on Christmas day.

dad funny

If your old man is a big kid at heart then perhaps you could tap into the 80′s retro theme. Craig is a huge Star Wars fan so I love this Darth Vader apron (£14.99) and Jedi fleece robe (on sale at £26.99). The Marvel Comics wash bag (£11.99) is also very cute and might mean he stops taking up space in my Cath Kidston bag when we go away for the weekend - why are men’s deodorants twice the size of women’s anyway?

dadpractical

Or if you’re looking for something a little more practical, then there are also some bits your other half would get tons of use out of. This battery powered iPhone charger (£12.99) would be great for quick charges when you’re on the go. Although Craig has an in car charger, we have two cars and often forget to switch it from car to car. This would fit comfortably in my handbag and earn me heaps of brownie points when we’re out and about and he needs to get the latest football scores.

A key finder (£5.49) would also be an easy hit in our house. Although Craig is really careful with his keys, our cheeky monkey often has other ideas and will literally scale Everest to have a chew on daddy’s car keys. Unfortunately, Dexter isn’t so great at putting them back after he’s got bored with them and we’re often ten minutes late to parties where we’re searching the depths of the sofa for them. This key finder beeps when you whistle so would be the perfect solution.

As Craig is also the main cook in our house (I say main… in reality, the only dish I can actually cook without supervision is cheese on toast!) I also really like this chopping board set from Joseph Joseph at £46.

But whilst browsing for Craigy, I also found these seriously cool neon lights for just £32.99 each. I’m not suggesting we have one of these in our bedroom but they’d be perfect as a nightlight for Dex! And that’s without even looking at the kids section!

So there you have it - a perfect selection of quirky gifts for men - big and small!

What’s on your Chrimbo list for your other half this year?
