So this weekend’s heatwave saw us donning a zillion bags and trekking to our local park for a feast of a picnic!

Picnics are usually hit and miss with us. Ants, wasps and unpredictable kiddies can make for a messy and stressful experience when you have OCD. So we took Uncle Dan (my brother) along for the ride to help out with bums, mitts and faces (and play time) so I could focus on swatting any intruders away. The kids had an awesome time - even if us adults ended up taking to the bottle afterwards!
So off we went. Car loaded up to the hilt, to Waitrose, then onto Dinton Pastures. It’s a rambling public park with boating lake, adventure playground and fields to explore. I set up as the kids rolled their sun-lotioned & sweaty bodies around in a nearby sandpit (did I mention I had OCD?).

When the food was ready, they came running at me like Calais migrants, knocking glasses of Appletiser, and depositing half the sandpit onto my carefully laid plates of food. Not to be defeated, I whipped out my new HUGGIES Style on the Go pouch, and did my best to restore some order and not flounce off in a mood. With dress slipping from my shoulder, broken breadsticks everywhere and strawberry juice dripping from dinky chins - I did well to keep smiling.

That’s the trouble with picnics. There’s something almost primitive about eating on the floor with your hands, and it makes for a messy experience. With no trusty Dettol spray or kitchen roll to hand, baby wipes are possibly the most essential bit of kit you need for family al fresco dining. This is where HUGGIES Style on the Go pouches come into their own. They have a clip allowing you to hang them from pushchair or bag so there’s no frantic scrambling around in the depths of your bag with icky hands.
Even better, practical doesn’t mean ugly, as these handy pouches come in three gorgeous and vibrant designs. This makes them even easier to locate around the house and serves as a neat little reminder to clip them on before venturing outside. If you needed any more convincing, they’re also endorsed by presenter, designer and style icon Fearne Cotton.

Like all HUGGIES wipes, the refills are made with natural absorbent fibres for baby-sensitive skin, and are free from perfume, alcohol, parabens and phenoxyethanol. These invisible chemicals can leave sticky residue on bums and faces and result in itchy unsightly rashes. Scarily most wipes on the market are packed full of these (used as preservatives), but not HUGGIES. They’re also the strongest and most absorbent of any wipes I’ve come across - so fab for mopping up spills or scrubbing away at sticky mouths and noses.

For older children with more manners and decorum than my two dirt-magnets, the flip-top lids provide easy access for little hands. The lids also mean mum & dad can grab a single wipe without emptying the packet - let’s face it, we’ve all been there; child pinned to the floor with legs akimbo threatening to make a run for it, desperately trying to liberate the one wipe from its cousins for a mucky bum change.

Needless to say my Style on the Go was never more than a foot away this mummy throughout the entire picnic, and I won’t be leaving the house without them again.
Looks like a lovely day and your picnic food is making me hungry
