Dexter is definitely a law unto himself. He’s not one for cuddles, loves to play independently, and when he needs feeding - he NEEDS feeding. The fact that he’s a pain-in-the-proverbial is one thing, but combine it with a reckless streak, and we’re in trouble. And if you’re brave enough to go outside with Dexter (i.e. out in public), you’re well and truly in-for-it!
Take the garden…
The garden, for most children is a great place to kick around a football, blow bubbles, plant flowers or ‘play mum & dad’ in the wendy house - at least this is what I’ve always envisaged… A fairy-tale if you like. I honestly believed the worst I would deal with was Dexter eating daisies or ripping my flowerbeds apart - but it wasn’t. Nope - Dexter sees anything even remotely dangerous and commando crawls there with reaction times that would rival Usain Bolt. Bamboo, gardening forks, Miracle Gro, bug spray… it doesn’t matter how high up it is, he’ll get it. It doesn’t matter that he can’t walk, he can climb there and that’s all that matters. I’m beginning to think I need a safe in my garden! Look at this (supervised) reaction to garden tools…
I can hear you already. It looks perfectly cute and innocent right?
Nope. Minutes later he slammed the spade in a downwards motion on his skull (safely guided away by daddy), the watering can was slammed on other extremities that would make a grown man cringe.
Not convinced? Well let’s take the park…
Like most not-quite-toddlers Dexter loves the baby swings. Popping him in and jumping out in front of him as he swings forwards will bring on a smile-fest that lasts for at least 15 minutes (a rarity with Dexter). But recently he’s began to look wistfully at other children on climbing frames and slides.
Deciding that trying him on slides and roundabouts would be a sensible compromise, we decided to see how he’d get on (I think I’d have a heart attack if I saw him scrambling up a frame any higher than my breasts - and trust me they’re not as high up as they used to be). Again, here are some fairly innocent-looking pictures…
Cute isn’t he? Well what you didn’t see from these, is my 14-month-old doing chin-up’s!
I honestly believe my son is fearless.
Does anyone else have a little Rambo-in-the-making?

Dexter is so full of life, curiosity and energy just as every toddler should be! I love to see all his antics, it so reminds me of my boys when they were young. Before you know it he will be like my boys practicing his chin ups in the gym to impress the girls! Until then enjoy every minute. Thank you for sharing this week’s fun on Country Kids.
He he - He likes the girls at the moment! Always kissing them and stroking their faces. He reserves the hitting for me!
Hahaha. I love boys, but boy do they try hard to give you a heart attack! Mind you, I’d rather have fearless than fearful of everything. Dexter looks like a whole lot of fun- good luck!
He is - still I absolutely love my Tuesdays where he goes to his nan’s for the day. He’s utterly exhausting!
Beautiful photos! Popping in from #countrykids
Dexter could quite possibly be the love of my youngest daughters life, she would have the time of her life with him, they share that daredevil danger streak
I think we should make a pact now that they must never meet lol
Looking at your pictures, I reckon he must really keep you on your toes. He is gorgeous, though and I bet with that smile he can get away with a lot x
Tee hee - definitely! Can you imagine the two of them together?!
Haha, I have one like that. The funny thing is that it’s my daughter who is fearless, more so than her three brothers. She’s 5 now so quite a competent and safe climber but she gets scarily high up in our apple tree, and also hangs upside down from the climbing frame:-) (Visiting you back, by the way, and sharing the #CountryKids love!)
