Show me one parent who doesn’t have fond childhood memories of Roald Dahl, and I’ll eat a tub of Sudocrem. It can’t ever be in question that he was, simply put, one of the most inspirational children’s storytellers of our time.
Roald Dahl Day takes place every year on 13 September (his birthday). This year, it coincided with Friday 13th which meant it was the perfect excuse to cause even more mayhem and mischief than usual! For many families, it’s the perfect excuse for mums and dads everywhere to pull out their battered copies of The BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or James and the Giant Peach and treat their little one’s to an extra special bedtime treat. Sadly, my copies didn’t survive my teenage years so I was delighted when Debenhams got in touch to say they wanted to send me a compendium of Dahl’s works to read to Dexter. When they arrived Craig and I were reminded of just how many stories we’d forgotten over the years.
We were also sent a seriously cute little romper and dressing gown from Bluezoo at Debenhams to get Dexie in the mood for story-time. We’ve joked that he looks like a Aleksander Meerkat in his little dressing gown - there’s no denying it is very warm and cosy for the chilly weather ahead! His dinosaur romper is also a new favourite and great for chaotic bedtimes when he’s dashing around the living room trying his best to prove just how awake he is. Both items fit perfectly and are exactly the sort of superior quality you’d expect from Debenhams. At just £10 each they are also incredibly reasonable!
It’s great to see Debenhams embrace children’s reading. Let’s face it, story-time just wouldn’t be story-time without snuggly PJ’s and laying down with your duvet up to your chin! Debenhams Kidswear have some fantastic value rompers, pyjamas and onesies for girls and boys of all ages. If you have slightly older children, there are also great character ranges too so you may well find yourself snuggling down with a miniature Superman before bedtime. I also spotted a One Direction onesie that is bound to win you some brownie points from your little Mrs Harry Styles-to-be!
So with Dexter all dressed up, and Craig and I reminiscing about our favourite kids stories, I just had to pay homage to my childhood hero (even if I am a few days too late!). I was such a huge fan of Roald Dahl, I read his books over and over again when I was growing up. These books are virtually a rite of passage for any small child and with all the amazing movies and tv adaptions of Dahl’s work, he’ll never be forgotten.
Of course, with Dex being so little, right now he’s enjoying listening to daddy’s voice and perhaps not taking in all of Roald Dahl’s magic. I do know however, that in time, he’ll be begging daddy to read him his favourite book curled up in bed with his teddies. Thanks to Debenhams, he certainly has plenty to choose from!
DISCLAIMER: I was kindly sent a Roald Dahl compendium and some sleepwear by Debenhams. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
If you’d like to remind yourself of just how wonderful Roald Dahl is, there are plenty of thriving social networks dedicated to him. There’s a fabulous Facebook page and Twitter feed that will point you in the direction of all the latest celebrity podcasts, savings on books and much more.
I love Roald Dahl - he will grow up loving these books! He looks so cute in his new pj’s and dressing gown.
Aw Dexter is so cute! Love that snuggly dinosaur suit! £10 is a bargain for Debenhams!
