Win this Christmas with Sky Movies #SproutChristmas Competition

Posted on

Although my tree isn’t up yet and I still haven’t bought a single present, the advent calendars were rolled out a few mornings ago and the kids have seen Father Christmas at Dexter’s school fete. At 3 years old, this is the first year he’s understood the significance of Christmas and he’s very excited.

Helping us set the scene for Christmas and build up the excitement are, as ever, Christmas ads. You’re sat there engrossed in the grim theatre of I’m a Celebrity when Ant and Dec guide us through to a break and our hearts melt as the big boys trawl out their lavish productions.

Among those who have surpassed themselves this year are Sky Movies. Their fun-filled extravaganza is definitely a contender for Christmas ad of the year and taps into some of our much-loved family movie favourites. It follows the story of Rosie who sulkily nabs the Brussel Sprouts off her Christmas dinner plate and disappears under the table after being told to eat them. In her sneaky endeavours she meets many a child’s idol as she flicks between film scenes trying to get rid. She swans through Cinderella’s ballroom casually tossing sprouts in champagne flutes, fends off a hostile dinosaur with a sprout as she helps the characters from Night at the Museum, and manages to dump another during an animated exchange with Baymax from Big Hero 6 - all films that are available over the festive period on Sky Movies.

So capitalising on the theme of the much maligned brussel sprout, Sky Movies invited a few bloggers to recreate a movie using the green version of Marmite. It just so happened, I was one of them. I chose Titanic, and well… this is how I managed to offend James Cameron on more levels than I’d care to mention.

Not alone in my efforts, here are some of my fellow bloggers giving it a go: The Oliver’s Madhouse, What the Redhead Said, The Mini Mes and Me (sit tight for this one), Henry’s Blog and The Yorkshire Dad (not long to wait)… Yes we all spent hours putting these beauties together. Well worth popping a few popcorn kernels ey?

Sooooo…. Given we all made wallys of ourselves, how do you fancy doing the same? … No?

What I said you could Win Sky TV* for a year or £100 vouchers?

If you fancy yourself as the next JJ Abrams, enter the Sky Movies #SproutChristmas Competition and and win big in time for Christmas. Just rip open a packet of sprouts and film a 2-3 min movie and you’ve sorted Christmas dinner or your partner’s or your kids’ pressies!

Sound too much like hard work? Well my movie took a few hours in total. They’re not asking for the new Wallace & Gromit, just a quicky Smartphone-made movie uploaded to their Facebook page. Pop on over to Sky Movies Facebook page for the lowdown and some rather hilarious entries!

Twitter fan? off you pop then - @SkyMovies!

Don’t want to enter but want to see all these great movies whilst supping Moët & Chandon and nicking the Snickers out of your child’s selection box - check out Sky Movies!

TalkTalk are offering Sky Movies & Sky Sports for £20 a month

Craig (like many men… *sigh*) is into his football. A Man Utd match is possibly the best time ever to ask him for a loan or set him a deadline for all those odd jobs that have been mounting up. It’s not just football either. He’ll watch cricket for hours on end, golf championships and F1 with the same intensity and passion as a teenager hung up on Catfish the TV Show. During these all-too-common sports binges, the kids and I might as well strip naked and cover the walls in neon paint as he wouldn’t notice a thing

I’m a fine one to talk. I have a drama and foreign film obsession that would send most men hurtling down the divorce court. Far from holing myself away though, I’m very easily distracted and it often takes me 4 hours to watch an hour’s worth of Downton. The pause button on our TalkTalk remote is most definitely the most used button in our home and already showing signs of fading.

Just as-well we have TalkTalk then!

This month TalkTalk are offering their customers a chance to watch Sky Sports AND Sky Movies for just £20 a month. The offer is available for three whole months too so will see you right through the festive season! Just think, we’re talking unlimited access to blockbuster films and the chance to see all the Barclays Premier League matches broadcast by Sky (just think of the girlfriend-points you’ll score).

The deal follows hot on the heels of TalkTalk’s Sky Sports half-price offer. It proved so popular that TalkTalk has combined Sky Movies and Sky Sports Boosts so movie and sports fans can save a whooping £25 a month*.

TalkTalk Youview Sports boost compromises of Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, 4, F1 along with Sky Sports 5 (home of European football). Its Sky Sports channels bring live coverage of the Barclays Premier League, UEFA Champions League Football, F1 and Rugby Union.

Before you all start sending me death threats, opting into this £20 deal will also give you access to 11 Sky Movies Channels, including Sky Disney and Sky Superheroes and access to hundreds of blockbuster movies on demand. I urge all women out there to line up back to back Romcom’s when your other half finally prises himself off the sofa. Go on! Get your own back…

This offer builds on the recent deal between Sky and TalkTalk to broaden and extend the distribution of Sky entertainment to TalkTalk’s TV customers. In August, Sky gave TalkTalk homes access to all Sky Sports channels as part of an Open weekend. Earlier this year, TalkTalk added seven Sky channels, including Sky One, Sky Living, Sky Sports News HQ and 100s of hours of on demand Sky entertainment content, to its Plus TV package.

This is what makes TalkTalk so affordable, flexible and a joy to use. Customers can dip in and out of channels they love with no year-long commitment hanging over their head. TalkTalk’s TV Boosts provide additional channels that can be added or removed a month at a time; it is TV to be glued to, not stuck with. In addition to the Sky packages, TalkTalk homes can add Boosts for hit US and UK entertainment and favourite kids channels and on demand content to their package at the touch of a button. Simplicity at it’s best!

If you want to sign up to TalkTalk to enjoy this fab offer, and many more monthly deals that will have you scrambling for the remote, here’s a breakdown of their price plan:
TalkTalk’s Essentials TV is half price for six months at £4.25, then £8.50, plus line rental. And Plus TV is just £9.25 a month for six months, then £18.50 a month, plus line rental. TalkTalk’s Plus TV package includes seven great Sky entertainment channels and a free YouView box, usually £299.

* Usually TalkTalk homes can access Sky Sports Boost for £30 a month and its Sky Movie Boost for £15 a month, on a month by month basis with no ongoing commitment.

TalkTalk Sky Movies Boost

So this month we’ve been trialling the TalkTalk Sky Movies Boost. I’m not new to Sky Movies as I’ve been a Sky customer before, but I was intrigued to see how easy the service is to navigate on TalkTalk’s YouView box.

Let’s get all the faff out of the way first…

This boost is just £15 per month, and as with all TalkTalk’s boosts, is available with just one month commitment – so no lengthy subscription charges. You’ll opt in using your TalkTalk remote and secure pin - so providing this 4 digit number isn’t public knowledge, there’s no chance of little fingers ordering any boosts on your behalf. The on-screen instructions are incredibly easy to follow and the fees are clearly explained to minimise any confusion. This means your selected Boost will be added immediately and you can start your month’s worth of Sky Movies anytime you like. The benefits of this system are obvious - you’re not tied to a costly year-long contract so you can dip in and out at your leisure. In this climate of financial instability, this is an outright win for TalkTalk over its competitors.

So what’s the Sky Movies Boost all about?

Well you get 11 channels of all the latest films covering all your favourite genres. These being:

  • Sky Movies Premiere
  • Sky Movies Showcase
  • Sky Movies | Disney
  • Sky Movies Family
  • Sky Movies Greats
  • Sky Movies Comedy
  • Sky Movies Select
  • Sky Movies Drama & Romance
  • Sky Movies Action & Adventure
  • Sky Movies Crime & Thriller
  • Sky Movies Sci-fi & Horror

You can access what’s on via the Guide button on your remote (channels 530+) to view the films on offer at set times throughout the day, or via the TalkTalk button to access a range of films on demand. Just select TalkTalk > Sky > and scroll left or right to what’s on offer. This is great for impromptu viewing and means you’re not restricted to a timetable.

In my eyes, this makes TalkTalk slightly easier to navigate than Sky. Although Sky’s Guide function is arguably better, the sheer number of ways to access On Demand programming is much better with TalkTalk. I also love the fact the graphics on the TalkTalk home screen only take up half the screen - the other half shows trailers of what is on offer either on Box Office or via the Boosts. This is a great idea if you’re stuck for viewing inspiration.

This review has gone down a storm with my Craig as he loves to relax with a movie and beer in the evenings. But it’s also brought the boys closer as they can watch children’s movies together at the weekends. Dexter is really beginning to take notice of the television now and it’s great to see him quietly snuggled up with his daddy rather than trashing the house! This leaves mummy with some much-needed hands-free time to do some bits around the house or nap (I am pregnant after all!).

Here are some of our favourite films on Sky Movies at the moment:

This is 40 is the second time Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann have played alongside each other as man & wife. I really loved Knocked Up and this was filled with the same dry humour that never fails to make me giggle. If you’ve had CBeebies on for 4 hours straight and want to remind yourself that you’re an adult, this is the perfect tonic.

Craig rated A Good Day to Die Hard and, judging by the noise traveling up the stairs thanks to surround sound, it had the right amount of guns and bombs in it to appeal to our nation’s men.

But Sky Movies is really about the kids this Christmas with a whole of family-friendly premieres (Oz The Great and the Powerful, Wreck it Ralph), and old favourites such as Miracle on 34th Street and Arthur Christmas. Cartoons are a big hit in our house at the moment and I managed to get the above shot of Craig and Dex enjoying The Elf That Rescued Christmas. The fact that he managed to sit still for the entire duration is enough to make this review one of TalkTalk’s finest yet. Thanks guys!

We’re TalkTalk ambassadors and this review is one of many about their range of services. If you’d like to see what we thought of the Kids Boost click here to read more!
