Get ready to want this bowl

Sometimes you stumble across products that are so brilliant, you simply have to buy them. The best of these are born from genuine irritations we all face on a daily basis that some clever clogs has worked out we needn’t have to endure.

So, picture this:

You make your toddler a snack, pop it in a bowl and guide them to a place of relative safety to eat it. When I say relative safety, I am of course referring to an area where spillages won’t result in your landlord suing you for damages. You sit with them and they impress you with their impeccable eating skills and seemingly bottomless appetite, so you risk nipping to the loo. You come back, and your child has migrated to the worst possible place and spilt, smeared and ground their snack into your cream carpet. Not only this, Child 2 (your baby) has innocently crawled across to investigate, and is gobbling up said snack with all the ferocity of a tramp at a soup kitchen (> Ouch, did I really just say that?!).

Sound familiar?

Of course it does.

The fact is, standard bowls are ridiculously impractical for toddlers. Whether attention spans are tested, appetite wains or your child is simply a sucker for mischief, the odds are they’ll want to eat standing up, playing or surrounded by cushions in their play tent. When you have the additional worry of a weaning baby on the prowl for leftovers, mealtimes are way more dramatic and bothersome than they should be.

The answer? The Giddy Bowl

For mess-free snacking, this is simply genius. Cleverly, the inner bowl rotates to always stay level, so no matter what position you hold it in, the food in the bowl stays upright. Originally designed for use in aeroplanes and boats, it can handle a fair bit of toddler turbulence.

Testing this on Dex was like stripping naked and running naked in a field (i.e. refreshing) - gone is the worry that your living room will end up looking like a crime scene. Although the odd crumb will spill if you fling it at a wall or swing it violently from side to side, for the sort of clumsy play your toddler will get up to, it works surprisingly well. It’s not infallible, it could do with being a little wider and deeper for the greedier child and a few mini sausages have found their way onto the floor when both children are determined that’s where they should be, but it’s still a bit special.

It’s super robust with each interlocking component staying put. In fact, it can be a bit of fiddle to take it apart for cleaning which only emphasises how secure it is in the hands of your toddler. I’m also loving the four-way handles which are generously sized for the chubbiest of fingers.

The Giddy Bowl is made with food-safe plastic and is dishwasher safe. Better yet, as it has a air tight quick release lid, you can pop the entire bowl in the fridge to keep leftovers fresh. Apparently it also makes a nifty colander for straining small portion of fruit and vegetables - but let’s face it, as I’m Little Miss Can’t Cook Won’t Cook, I can’t testify to this.

Would I buy this again? Yes, yes, yes. What’s not to like? If my carpet could speak it would be thanking me a million times over!

As this is a new product and is yet to hit the high street, it can only be bought directly from the masterminds behind it - Gr8 Solution. You can bag your own for £9.99 in either yellow/pink or green/blue.
